SCHOOL CANCELLATION,
DELAYED OPENING,
AND
EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
Bad Weather Today?
Check for School Closures
In the event of stormy weather,
school cancellations and delayed openings will be announced on radio and TV by 6:00 AM.
- The following radio stations will carry information about these procedures:
WWCO (1240 AM), WELI (960 AM), WKSS (95.7 FM), WATR (1320 AM), WDRC (1360 AM and 102.9
FM), WICC (60AM) and WEZN (99.9FM) in Bridgeport. TV stations include WTNH-TV (8),
WFSB (3), and WVIT (30 and 20). Please tune in to one of the above stations for
information.
- We ask that you refrain from calling the schools or the police for specific information
about the delayed opening or cancellation.
- In the event of a delay in the opening of school, your child's bus transportation will
be delayed by the same amount of time. For example, if school is delayed for 45
minutes, a student who is usually picked up at 7:35 AM, would be picked up at 8:20 AM.
- Should a severe storm develop while school is in session and we feel in the interest of
safety that it is necessary to dismiss students early, announcements will also be given to
the radio and TV stations listed above.
- Parents of elementary and middle school students should make arrangements for procedures
to receive students at home should school be dismissed early. One or more of the
following would be helpful:
a. Arrange to be home early for
your child's arrival.
b. Arrange for another adult to be
at home for your child's early arrival.
c. Arrange for a relative or
neighbor to provide adult supervision in their homes.
- Please inform your child of any plans that you will make in the case of an early
dismissal. School principals will not be able to call individual parents to confirm
or arrange these plans.
